Girls in Boots: Attitude on the Hoof - New York Times

oh, the boots. i love the boots. ever since i was a kid, boots have been my friend - cowboy, lace up, ankle. bootie. motocicleta. love them all.

they're butch, they're hardy, they're femme.

they also don't get stuck in street grates and wack out your sciatica.

I love boots too. It's one thing I hate about summer: it is often too hot to wear boots. I have some vintage frye cowgirl boots I got from ebay that I have been wearing this summer though, and boy are they cute boy magnets!

Oh, I am really coveting the ones in the last slide of the NYT slideshow though (the chick in the old style shirt). Must.not.spend.money.

I had the same reaction to that article, but dig this: those boots look cute primarily b/c the wearers are all wearing miniskirts. And sadly, I don't have the legs for that....

I hear you on the problem with heels and the lower back. All in moderation, all in moderation.

exactly. i'm short and don't have the legs for a mini. can't say that's stopped me before.

see? when fall arrives, can't you see you in tights, cowboy boots and a mini, topped off with a cute little jacket and scarf?

isn't that cute?

sigh.

I don't have the legs for a mini either. But, I do still wear cowboy boots (I have three pairs: black, red, & my vintage frye) with skirts, just ones that are just below the knee (there was one woman in the slideshow who had a longer skirt - and what I like about that is that it is not *as* trendy).

my problem is my calves. they're sort of, uh, muscular. they're not that waify breadstick thin that can just slide into a high boot. so boots with a mid calf height are good for me - motorcycle or cowboy.

or the rare lace up boot that makes me think of swashing some buckle.
