a new find: The Urban Beauty Source - Home

are you tired of that thrill of discovery every time you find that RARE mention of a product made specifically for brown girls in Lucky magazine (or Glamour, or InStyle or whatever)?
and the beauty section in essence is too small?

thrill no more. go to ambermag.com - The Urban Beauty Source - Home.

But why is urban code for black? And why can't they mention color given it's *makeup*?

It's not just them, either. Cable stations do it too to designate black shows or movies. I know I'm off topic; you were talking about retail therapy.

I'm not being precious. I know on some abstract level why, but still, it *bugs*

no, you're totally right. urban codes for 'black.' it is annoying. i don't even know what 'urban' means - does it mean city? inner city? non-suburban? ghetto? what?

and why doesn't that term also code for other communities of color who live in 'city' areas?

and in magazines and beauty shows it's rare to find any mention of beauty options/solutions for women of color, let alone other than african american; it's like how when we talk about race or race relations, the frame is usually black/white. you know, i can't recall ANY mention of latinas or asians in any kind of Lucky or Jane mag.

so no. you're not off topic at all.
