Hope Boston is treating you well.

And now for something completely different: I came across this description of a new Vin Diesel film that is currently in production (don't ask). Why must I include it below? Two reasons. First, because it's being directed by Mathieu Kassovitz - I believe you're a fan of his, uh, ahem, work. Second, because the description is priceless. I give you "Babylon A.D."!

Plot Outline: Veteran-turned-mercenary Thoorop (Diesel) takes the high-risk job of escorting a woman from Russia to China. Little does he know that she is host to an organism that a cult wants to harvest in order to produce a genetically modified Messiah.

awesome!
yes, boston was fun, but it's nothing compared to the french and their bizarre predilection for over the top science fiction/action movies.

(Brother of the Wolf, anyone?)

this is so on my kassovitz radar. (boo that he won't be in it.) any bets on who's going to play the cult messiah's hostess? that girl from House of Flying Daggers? the pouty angry looking chick from XXX2?

luc besson's current girlfriend?

um, that was supposed to be Brotherhood of the Wolf.

(and, yeah, i saw it!)

I think that, calculating the current rate of increasing age differential per girlfriend, Luc Bessons' new girlfriend will be playing the Anointed Zygote whom Vin must protect and transport across international borders.

I tried to watch "Brotherhood of the Wolf" on DVD once, but it made me literally nauseated due to all the jump cutting. I couldn't tell what the hell was going on. I also haven't seen Kassovitz's over-the-top noirish films "Crimson River" (sp?) nor its sequel, and I think he may costar in that one. I'd love to get together sometime to see "Babylon AD" - perhaps your next visit to NYC should be timed to coincide with its release.

Finally, I am really thoroughly ashamed to admit that last year I went alone in a theater on a weekday mid-afternoon to see a movie featuring Luc Besson's ex-girlfriend (the one from the Joan of Arc film and the fabulous over the top Frenchified sci-fi film where, come to think of it, she played a kind of hot, skinny, titless, and red-haired baby messiah). This movie was called "Ultraviolet," and it was truly the worst movie I've ever sat through in my life, though not as much an offense to the brain as "Crash," last year's horrendous Oscar winner.

I'll stop now, ugh.

mila jovovich? is that her name?

oh, lee, you haven't suffered until you've seen her in the apocalypse movies (zombies let loose in a research facility). she's the perfect 'actress' for video-based movies - she looks exactly like a videogame.

Crimson River? i think it was about human experimentation. awesome. vince cassel, aka, Mr. Monica Belucci, was in it. (he's another kung-fu kicking, french rapping action star.)
