oh, the time suck.
enjoy The 50 Most Racist Movies.
(some of which i actually enjoyed, at one time!)

(isn't that an interesting thing? you can derive enjoyment from something that is also racist, which does not negate said racism. i think that's interesting.)

I haven't seen every film listed here, but I have seen many of them. Which is why I'm able to notice that the descriptions given for many of them are just plain wrong. My guess is that the creators of this list didn't bother to watch many of these films before declaring them racist. (Although I'd forgive them for doing this to "Soul Man.") What's sad is how many movies on the list were written for the purpose of attacking racism - further evidence that the listmakers didn't bother to watch them, or even talk to someone who did.

really?
i didn't think they were that inaccurate. i think they were spot on in describing the problematic tropes (which may not be the main plot points of the films) in these films.

I have no problem with them calling out 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' - Mickey Rooney's performance is about as racist as it gets. But their #2 pick is 'Planet of the Apes', which is precisely what I meant about a movie written to attack racism. Humans in the film were treated the way ethnic minorities were treated in real life - particularly in the courtroom scene, where the orangutan Dr. Zaius explains that humans have no rights.
The listmakers would have us believe that Charlton Heston took part in the March on Washington in 1963, and then just 5 years later made the most racist movie of modern times. And so, I am standing up and calling bullshit.

so maybe that particular movies is more guilty of executing a Clumsy and Awkward Racial Analogy instead of being the #2 Most Racist.

but i still think the tropes they identified in these movies can stand.
