dammit! i'm a girl!

i'm in the middle of hastily cobbling together a GOTV project for NonProfit but i still have a few minutes to wonder about fashion...

what shall my new fall look be?
i've tried sexy librarian and failed...
what should my new staples be?

i just bought a bunch of darks: dark underwear, tshirts, socks.

For the past ten years, my goal was to do one load of laundry, so all my underwear, tshirts, socks, and towels were white.

Then I saw "An Inconvenient Truth" and decided I shouldn't wash with hot water anymore.

Never mind that electricty in Seattle is hyrdo electric. I'm making a statement.

But you were talking about fashion, weren't you....

plummy velvet. head to toe. wasit coats, long skirts, froufrou collars. yes, that and knee-high ribbon laced victorian boots!

That is what I will be wearing. In my mind. In reality, I'll be wearing the same shit I wore last fall because I am about to leave my job to go freelance and will have no income in the forseeable future. Ahem.

well, according to the Harpers Bazaar trend quiz/recommendation, my fall style should be The Tailored Tomboy.

or, as i call it: The Sexy Librarian's Sexy Butch Cousin

Well, I am going with a look I am calling Country Sports - basically we are talking Gosford Park/Jeeves and Wooster. Have you considered having your look be All About the Shoes? Monochromatic dressing, say, except for the fabulous shoe in an unexpected color/pattern? I need to check out The Tailored Tomboy, now.

i think you can't go wrong when you plan your outfit around your shoe.

and so the Tailored Tomboy is really going to be about the femme shoe and the man-pants. my version of the tomboy isn't one who plays sports or climbs trees but one who is hiding out in a boys prep school and is deeply in touch with his feminine side.

you know. like that.

OK, I can see you pulling off that variant of Tailored Tomboy - you are correct in inferring that it was the whole underbelly of tree-climbing, grubby, sporty, clumpy, loud Tomboy-ishness that I just couldn't reconcile with the elegant languor that is Ding.

think: a brown, curvy Victor/Victoria thing going on.

now, if only i can actually pull it off and get some things...there's a suit in martha stewart's new magazine 'blueprint' that i just LOVE! it drives me crazy, i love it so much. it's retro, sexy, harsh and hot.

that's who i want to be....sexyharsh&hot.
