noooo!: Gap to close Forth & Towne chain

Gap to close Forth & Towne chain

dammit!

now where the hell am i supposed to find anymore cute work clothes??!!
marina renaldi is too expensive.
banana, GAP and JCrew don't have the sizes.
H&M is too young.
Old Navy too cheap.
Bloomies still can't quite get the fit and cut right - and they don't have the variety.
Lane Bryant is too...unprofessional.

so, thanks, GAP.
thanks for totally screwing over 30-something women who can't/won't dress like tarts who also happen to be shaped like women.

fuckers!

Hola,
Just a heads-up that the 'write the bastards here' link doesn't seem to be working for me - although I have, in fact, written the bastards through the Gap corporate website.

uh, and that would be because i tried to use an email address like a link.

it's what happens when you're sartorially devastated at 1 am!

I don't totally know the size ranges of the following, but what about:

Ann Taylor Loft/Ann Taylor?
Nine West
Inc

I've never been to F&T, but visits to the website indicate I might really like it. My favorite shopping locations are:
H&M (not always super young; fully half my wardrobe is from there)
Forever 21 (yes, young - but good for fun stuff - and damned cheap - I just wish they had a larer size range)
Anthropologie (spendy, but awesome)
BCBG/Max Azria (spendy also, but I can often find their stuff at filene's)
French Connection
Thrift stores
Banana Republic (sometimes has great skirts and pants - their jackets fit weirdly)

If I could afford them:
Marc Jacobs
Tracy Reese
Anna Sui
Betsy Johnson
Nanette Lepore

I gasped when I read your post, an immediately sent the news link to a friend with an alarmed "Oh, no!"

for me, the issue is size range.
with the exception of Old Navy none of the GAP brands go up to a size 18 or 20 (which is where i fall - and even a 20 is too big and an 18 is perfect in the thigh but a little snug in the belly.)

the younger brands don't have the level of polish i like or the size ranges, so really i'm left with the spendy options. i work for a non profit!! aagh!

donna karan discontinued her women's line; marina rinaldi is gorgeous but still cost prohibitive; and, i'm sorry, the other lines for older women who aren't svelte like a kid, are still a little dowdy. (and i really can't wear eileen fisher without looking like a frakking art teacher. not the image i want to project, you know?)

so, unless JCrew and Banana Republic or Ann Taylor finally realize that some working women aren't actually shaped like effing 18 year old co-eds, i'm shit outta luck.

Have you tried online shopping? I know it's a pain to not be able to try things on, but still. Kiyonna.com has some polish, a lot of wrap dresses, blouses and trousers that work for work. Yeah, a lot of the same stuff (v-neck/surplice t shirts) that are probably too casual, but they do have some cute things.
